Books and Blankets:  March 3rd.  Parents are invited to read with children in the classroom from 8:15 – 9:15 a.m.

March 10.  Fourth Grade Gold Rush Day at Welby Way.

Language Arts.  Reading and Writing from the Extreme Settings Great Minds program.  Core Literature:  Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.  Focus Question: How does setting influence character and plot development?  Content Framing Question:  What does a deeper exploration of Brian’s thoughts and actions reveal about how Brian is learning and changing in the wilderness? Lessons include fluency practice, summary writing, exploded moments, prepositional phrases, relative pronouns and clauses. Students will finish writing their own narrative using the acronym ESCAPE: Establish, Setting, Characters, Action, Problem, Ending.

Writing.  Extreme Settings Narrative.  Placing exploded moments into the story.

Eureka Math:    Fractions.   Lessons 17-20 this week.  Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.  Brief quiz on Friday. 

Science.  Energy.  Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) FOSS Energy Module. We will investigate energy, build electric circuits powered by D-cells (flashlight batteries), and explore electromagnetism, light, collisions, and waves.  Building an understanding that energy is evident when there is motion, electric current, sound, light, or heat, and that energy can travel from place to place. 

Social Studies.  Explorers in California and Spanish/Mexican California – Missions.  Students are creating a project on the mission of their choice.

Health.  Personal Health.

Music.  8:10 – 8:40 Tuesday

Physical Education.  Psychomotor on Monday - we need volunteers to help from 8:05 - 9:00.  Class on Wednesday from 10:40 - 11:15.
