Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC) testing begins on May 10th.  Each Tuesday - Friday for the next two weeks we will be testing during the morning hours.   Room 26 will begin testing English Language Arts on Tuesday, May 10th.  Math will begin on Tuesday, May 17th.  

Visit www.sbac.portal.airast.org/ca for practice tests and a better idea of what type of questions students will answer.  Click on the green box "Practice and Training Tests."  Sign in as a guest.  Students should practice using pencil and paper and possibly show their methods for answering math problems to parent (answers are not available on the portal).  Parents can also visit the California State Standards for fourth grade to review fourth grade expectations.  

May 18 - All of Fourth Grade and Chorus will be singing in the "Spring Sing."  There will be 8:30 and 1:00 performances.

Paper work for the following field trips goes home on May 9.

June 1 - Getty Museum visit.

June 3 - Fourth Grade Gold Rush Day.  Please!  Please!  Plan to volunteer during this all day event.

This week and next - due to SBAC testing available class time will be spent in reading, writing and math.
  • English Language Arts: 
    • Novel Study on Esperanza Rising By Pam Nunoz Ryan
    • The Great American Gold Rush by Rhoda Blumberg
  • Technology: SBAC all week!
  • Writing: Informative paragraph writing from Newsela articles.  Writing Summaries in Esperanza Rising and character studies.  Universal Declaration of Human Rights is used/studied throughout Esperanza Rising.
  • Poetry:  Series Poems
  • Math: Module 7:  Exploring Measurement with Multiplication.  Learn the different conversions on the back page of title page for Module 7.
  • Physical Science Electricity.  Very little science during SBAC testing.  
  • Social Studies: Gold Rush.  See ELA above for additional reading.
  • Health: Personal Health and Physical Activity.  Chapter 5
  • Genius Hour - Bring in two different items to use for independent work by Monday, May 9, 2016.  Students will be working on Genius Hour during the month of May.
  • Arts:  Mrs. Faye, surreal art.
